The text you check

When you check a text, we send it to our language model provider to be checked. We also keep a copy of the checked text, the corrections that came back, the detected language, and technical figures such as how long the check took and its estimated cost, for 30 days. The copy exists so we can review the quality of the corrections and improve them; after 30 days it is deleted. It is never shown back to you, published, or shared with anyone else.

We do not use advertising or third-party analytics. There is no tracking pixel and no analytics script on this site.

Why we keep the text

Corrections can only be judged against the sentence they were made in. The review copy lets us see where the checker was wrong, what it repeatedly misses, and whether a change to the model made things better or worse. You cannot view, export or delete an individual check from your account, because there is no list of them to show; the whole copy is deleted on a 30-day cycle.

Do not paste confidential material you would not want processed for this purpose (for example passwords, identity documents or other people's private data). The checker needs the text to correct it; there is no way to correct a sentence without reading it.

Account information

If you create an account we store your email address, your name if you provide one, a hashed password (or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google), and the country and IP address associated with your sign-ins so we can protect the service from abuse. You can delete your account at any time; we then remove your profile and record a one-way hash of your email address so it cannot be used to register again.

Cookies

We use two cookies and nothing else:

  • cm_session: keeps you signed in. It is set only when you log in, cannot be read by scripts, and expires after 30 days.
  • cm_csrf: protects our forms against cross-site request forgery. It contains no personal data.

We do not use cookies to track you across other websites, so no cookie banner is needed.

Cookieless traffic statistics

To understand which pages are used, we count page views. A visitor is identified by a salted hash of their IP address that changes every day and cannot be linked across days. The IP address itself is not stored, and the statistics are kept for 90 days.

The language model provider

Texts you submit are processed by our language model provider to produce the suggestions. We send an opaque identifier derived from your account id (or "guest" if you are not signed in), never your email address or name. That provider processes the text under its own terms; the copy we keep for review is kept by us, not by them.

Your rights

You can access, correct and delete your account data through your account page. Deleting your account removes your profile and the links from review copies to you. For any other request about your data, including asking for a reviewed text to be removed sooner than 30 days, contact us at the address on the contact page.
